Make Something Up

= lie about something, invent a story

Ex: Kids like to “make up stories” to impress their friends, instead of telling the truth.

Ex:  My boss asked me why I was late to the meeting, so I “made up a lie” that I had car trouble, but honestly, I don’t own a car.
