he vs him /  she vs her / they vs them

= pronouns

*Pronouns substitute for nouns.

 

he / she / they

= subject pronouns

Subject pronouns are used when the pronoun is the subject of the sentence.

 

Ex: ______ did the job.

I, you, he, she, it, we, they, what, who are all correct, so they are subject pronouns.

 

 

him / her / them

= object pronouns

(Me, you, it, him, her, us, them and whom) are all object pronouns

* The subject pronoun (he / she / they) always go before the object pronoun (him / her/ them) in a sentence.

Ex: “He” looks like Tom Hanks. ( He = subject ,   Tom Hanks = object)

or

Tom Hanks looks like “him.” ( Tom Hanks = subject, Him = object)

 

Ex: “She” loves “him.”  (She = subject , Him = object )

or

“He” loves “her.”  (He = subject ,  Her = object )
