Cross Fingers

Two opposite meanings:

= 1) If you hold the crossed fingers for others to see, then you’re wishing for good luck

= 2) If you hide the crossed fingers then you are telling a lie on purpose.

Ex:  I sent my application for the job.  My “fingers are crossed.”  I hope I get the job.

Ex:  The match is so close. I hope our team wins. “Fingers crossed.”

Ex:  Sure, I’ll save you a slice of pizza.  (*while hiding crossed fingers)

= lie

Ex:  If I have a party, I will definitely invite you. (*while hiding crossed fingers) = lie
