Off and On

(also called On and Off, or On again Off again)

= now and then, start and then stop and start and stop again etc.

Ex:  It has been raining “off and on” all day.

 

Ex:  I’ve had a toothache “off and on” this month.

 

Ex: The couple has an “on again, off again” relationship. They love each other one moment, and then hate each other the next moment.

'Is the breakup forever this time?' 'No, we're on again, off again.'
‘Is the breakup forever this time?’ ‘No, we’re on again, off again.’
