Knock On Wood

       Knock On Wood

= popular superstitious expression used to avoid changing fate and to continue our good luck

*Because of superstition we sometimes are afraid to say something positive because we think our fate or luck will change from saying it, so we say “knock on wood” to protect us, or continue our good luck.

* “Knock on wood” can be said, or you can literally knock on something that is wooden.

Ex: I’m so happy that it hasn’t rained today.  “Knock on wood.” (Meaning: “knocking on wood” will protect our fate from being changed, in this example: protect from raining. )

Ex:  I’m lucky because I almost never get sick.  “Knock on wood.” (Meaning: “knocking on wood” will continue our good luck of being healthy. )
