general definition of high maintenance = needing a lot of work, money, etc to keep in good condition. (Ex: The price for fixing an expensive car.)

 

high maintenance

(used as slang for describing a person)

= someone who demands a lot of attention, has more needs and/or demands and therefore more difficult or challenging

Ex: She doesn’t have any brothers or sisters, so she is very “high-maintenance.”

Ex: I don’t like “high-maintenance” women, who expect me to do everything for her.
