Dump

1) Dump (noun)

= an ugly place, disgusting place to live

Who says this?: everyone

*IMPORTANT NOTE:

This meaning of dump is different than the noun, “garbage dump” (= the place where trash is taken and buried.)  Also it is different than the verb “to dump” (= to release or empty large amounts of material)

Ex:  When I was in college, my apartment was a “dump” because my roommate and I never cleaned anything.

 

Ex:  The building was a “dump.”  It had broken windows and cracked walls.

2) to dump (verb)

= to break up with your girlfriend or boyfriend

Who says this?: young people and middle aged people

Ex.  When my first girlfriend “dumped” me, I was sad for a week.

Ex.  Your girlfriend is mean.  You should “dump” her and find another girlfriend.

3) take a dump (vulgar term) = to defecate, poop

Who says this?: young people and middle aged people

Ex. Do you know where the restroom is?  I have to “take a dump.”
